Zeitläufe

Every day is the same, or is it? The subtle changes and variations in how we approach daily activities are the inspiration for Zeitläufe.

The way in which the actions differ only really becomes apparent when you put them next to each other, like the ‘spot the differences’ picture puzzles in children’s magazines.

The slightly minimalistic drawings are based on photo series of domestic activities which were taken during the covid lockdowns. Therefore the artwork is also a research into the possibility and necessity of movement within very narrow margins.

The music comprises of a series of actions or structures as well: a time of rest, a time of restless activity, a time of contemplation, a time of aimless wandering. It is up to the musicians to decide with which of the structures they begin their ‘daily’ musical journey. Once they have completed the circle of 12 structures the piece is finished.

They way in which those structures overlap differently every time the piece is performed makes the form ambiguous. Each performance is unique just like every day is unique in its own subtle way.

The work is presented in various ways: as 35 drawings with a pre-recorded soundtrack or as a video.
